Living with a Heart Bypass

by Dr Robert Povey, Dr Claire Hallas and Dr Rachel Povey

Coronary heart disease is one of the major causes of illness and death in the UK, and heart bypass surgery, once a rare operation, had become a commonplace and successful treatment.

This useful book is based on the experiences of people who have undergone bypass surgery. It describes the process leading up to a heart bypass, what to expect of the operation and how to make a good recovery, including advice on healthy eating, exercise, stress control and medications for heart disease.

"This book ought to be read by all bypass patients, their families and even the doctors and nurses looking after them! It provides a wealth of information on the causes of coronary disease, its clinical presentation, investigations and associated with it and finally coping with the surgery itself. The narrative is liberally illustrated by real-life case studies, making the whole text come alive. I would strongly recommend anybody who has anything to do with heart bypass surgery to read it." Professor Peter Weissberg -Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation
