Type 2 Diabetes
by Susan Elliot-Wright
Diabetes is a killer disease. The WHO predicts that by 2015, deaths from diabetes will have increased by 8,000 a year, while it represents a real danger to women of child-bearing years - pregnant women with diabetes are almost 5 times more likely to have a stillborn baby than are those without the condition.
Some 2 million people in the UK have diagnosed diabetes, 90% of them having Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. At least a million more - ‘the missing million’ - are thought to have undiagnosed diabetes. This growing global health problem is expected to present one of the 21st century's biggest medical challenges, with a huge increase in worldwide numbers forecast to 200 million from the current 150 million.
Yet, much can be done to delay or even prevent type 2 diabetes, and this book looks at the management of diabetes in a positive and practical way. Subjects covered include:- Difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
